About IPL sessions
The number of sessions depends on various parameters, including skin color , the area of the body treated, coarseness of hair, and sex. Coarse dark hair on light skin is easy to treat. The darker the skin the harder to treat. Certain areas may require considerably more treatments to achieve results. In addition, since hair grows in several phases, the IPL can only affect the currently active growing follicles; several sessions are needed to end hair growth in all phases of growth.
IPL Multiple treatments (typically 10-14 spaced 2 weeks apart) depending on the type of hair and skin color have been shown to provide long term reduction of hair. Current treatments suggest a series of treatments spaced at 2 weeks apart for based on typical hair cycle patterns for each area.
Please note that IPL does not work on light colored hair and fine and vellus hair of any color.
IPL Epilation was performed for the last 20 years even before it became commercially and available in the mid 1970s. (IPL) Intense Pulsed Light epilators, technically is not a IPL. It uses flash lamps that emit full light spectrum. IPL and light-based methods, are now most commonly referred to collectively as "IPL hair removal" or "HPL hair removal"
The efficiency of IPL hair removal was tested and is now generally accepted in the dermatology community, and IPL hair removal is widely practiced. Many reviews of IPL hair removal methods, safety, and efficacy have been published in the dermatology literature
Intervals between sessions
Usually treatments are spaced 2-3 weeks depends which of the body area and hair cycle length for that area. faces treatments usually require more frequent treatments, where legs require less frequent treatments.
Male IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology. It is primarily used for skin rejuvenation treatments but has been widely adopted for removing unwanted hair. IPL is very similar in appearance to the more traditional Laser type so it's a good idea to learn a little about them before buying one.
The full spectrum of light available to IPL can only utilize a single wavelength, which allows the IPL to adjust its intensity by filtering out specific wavelengths. IPL is becoming a more common method for hair removal due to its focused beam to the hair follicle so it cannot grow again. You can use it on more delicate areas such as pubic areas and underarms, and larger areas are an easier target. The result is a faster treatment and less discomfort. It is effective for a wide variety of skin types.
A very common problem among women is the growth of unwanted hair in different body parts. There are many hair removal methods. In beauty clinics, the IPL Hair removal is among the different hair removal treatments.
IPL treatment is effective in removing hair from every body part and even the most sensitive and private areas. The hand piece cools, soothes and glides along the skin. IPL is not painful, although some patients have allegedly felt some stinging or pinching. The treatment does not entail anesthesia.
Three to six treatments are usually enough, but some factors may affect the beneficial effects of IPL, such as thickness of hair, the area itself, the growth cycle of hair).
The IPL wavelengths focus on the pigment to reduces hair, so patients with light skin tones and whose hair color is dark are the most ideal candidates for treatments. If both skin and hair are dark, the light may have difficulty to work on.
The IPL hair removal produces a high intensity flash of filtered light from the applicator head when in contact with the skin. This filtered is absorbed by the pigment melanin, which is the chromophore, or the hair color. When absorbing the light, the hair transfers it to the surrounding cells which are converted into heat in a temperature of 70C or more, making these cells incapable of producing further hair growth.
Who can use the treatment?
Dark hairs are most easily treated because of high concentration of melanin, allowing maximum absorption and conversion into heat. Very fair hair has less melanin, so less absorption and less heat produced. White hair has no melanin and cannot be efficiently treated. The upper skin layer of the epidermis also contains melanin; it is, therefore, necessary to treat dark skinned individuals with less energy. The software allows you to adjust treatment parameters.
Why do hairs "grow" after treatment?
Hairs are not destroyed by the IPL treatment. The heat kills the hair roots, and the hair will fall after 1 to 3 weeks as the epidermis renews itself. It may seems the hair is growing faster during this period.
How can you tell if the treatment has worked then?
Several indications, such as hair color, expanding in size or a red ring around the follicle can be seen a few minutes after the treatment. These are good indications. Unfortunately, this is not always seen.
Is it necessary to shave prior to the treatment?
For better results, hairs should be 1 to 2mm, making it is possible to mark the treatment area. Hair should be trimmed just before for maximum absorption. Plucking and bleaching should not be done. Avoid any other form of epilating and waxing 4 weeks before the treatment.
Is It Permanent?
Most authorities would agree that using IPL technology is possible to permanently remove hair. Recent studies show a 80% reduction rate and histology studies have found destroyed hair follicles cells in the post treatment.
Does it hurt?
As the light energy is absorbed, discomfort can be felt depending upon melanin concentration in the epidermis and the hairs combined. No anesthesia is required.
What are the side effects?
The light from the applicator head should be completely safe, but make sure the glasses are there for the brightness generated from flash lamp. You may see some redness in the skin immediately after treatment and very rarely small blisters, so make sure you use the right intensity of light to your skin. However, most people experience no side effects at all and the skin reactions described above often disappear within hours to few days. The IPL treatment is non-invasive.
How many treatments are necessary?
Only hair in the growth phase can be treated. The number of hairs in this phase and the lengths of the growth cycles can both vary depending on the body site. For most people three to five treatments are sufficient. There is a significant reduction in most patients after first treatment and the hair tend to become finer. The first treatment is believed to synchronise the growth phase of the non-anagen (non-growth) hairs.
How Long Does The Treatment Take?
Face can take 10 minutes, but both legs and an entire back take approximately 1 hour.
How is the treatment carried out?
The applicator head is placed in contact with skin surface and the light is pulsed through it onto the skin. Move it to the surrounding area and repeat the process.
How do I prepare for treatment?
Avoid tanning 1 month ahead of the treatment and immediately after it, since the skin is particularly sensitive to UV light. Strong sunlight should be avoided for about a week.
Before and After Treatment
There is a need for some preparation in the weeks before treatment, along with the after-care. Practitioners should provide you with the necessary information.
